|About the Artist:
Shane Lavalette (b. 1987, Burlington, VT) currently lives and works in Somerville, MA. He received his BFA from Tufts University in partnership with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lavalette’s photographs have been shown widely, including national and international exhibitions at Aperture Gallery, Montserrat College of Art Gallery, The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, Chelsea Art Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Musée de l’Elysée, Les Rencontres d’Arles, Galerie Azzedine Alaïa, Caochangdi PhotoSpring Festival and The Photographers’ Gallery, London. Lavalette was commissioned by the High Museum of Art to create a new body of work as part of the “Picturing the South” series, from which a selection of photographs will be exhibited in 2012. Lavalette is also the founding publisher and editor of Lay Flat, an independent imprint for contemporary photography.
