Entry Description: The images in the series ”Night” are a furthering of the “opposites are one” concept explored by Photographer Wynn Bullock. He used scale and tonality to advance the notion that “opposites” can enhance and magnify each other, and can be harmonious.

In my work, these opposites are more nebulous, and they exist on several levels. An undeniably real scene, along with the illusory nature of the lighting, sets up a resonance between real and unreal.

For me, there is a spirited glow to these images, yet a sense of stillness and quietness which I find evocative and beautiful.

About the Artist:

Born into a military family in 1956, Harold grew up in New Mexico and Germany. Fortunately, his parents took the family on outings almost every weekend, hiking in the desert, horseback riding and camping in the mountains, exploring castles and old gardens in Germany and camping in Italy. These outings, of course, left many lasting impressions. After moving back with his family to the U.S. as a young teenager, Harold began photographing. He earned a B.F.A from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1978 after which he produced fine art and taught photography at the college level for several years. In 1987, Harold opened a commercial photography studio, where he has been creating images for national clients. In his studio, Harold has been perfecting the unusual and difficult technique of light painting for over 20 years, and his clients seek him out for the unparalleled look he brings to a photograph. In recent years, Harold has once again been concentrating on producing fine art, in which he is putting to use the lighting techniques which he has perfected over the years.
