Entry Title: "
So What are You Anyways?"
Category: Non-Professional, People
Entry Description: Perhaps it’s the human condition, or the brain’s natural desire to classify, but it seems that people are obsessed with asking, “What Are You?” Of course, classification makes it simpler for us to digest the overwhelming amount of information we consume, but in the question of race, why isn’t it enough to be American? And if you happen to be a mix of a few races, which box are you meant to check off? For the first time in history, America elected a man many consider to be our first Black president. But President Barack Obama isn’t only Black, is he? Some might be outraged if America referred to Obama as the first Bi-racial president. As if calling him Bi-racial would de-emphasize the fact that a Brown man is leading the White House. It would in fact, only point out, that he is not only Black.
Like many of the people in this book.
