Entry Description: I’ve always found books sexy; the feel and smell of the pages, the slow reveal and discovery of images and prose. In Artists and Models I’m interested in this idea as it relates to the act of finding and losing oneself in a book.

A New York City native, Bartley now resides in Wainscott, on the east end of Long Island. Mary Ellen's muse is the book, and she has made a number of series involving them: Blue Books, Paperbacks, Artists & Models and her series looking into her photography books "Standing Open". Bartley was a Photolucida Critical Mass 2011 top 50 winner, A combination of her book projects, Books, was exhibited at Corden Potts Gallery in San Francisco and she was chosen by the painter Ross Bleckner to exhibit her work alongside his at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York. Upcoming shows include “Out of Print” at the Bakersfield Art Museum and a solo show at The Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, NY.
