2014 Moving Image Photographer of the year
YANNICK-WEGNER
I was born 1984 in Heidelberg, Germany. After graduating I did a “Work and Travel” program in New Zealand and Australia. In 2006 I started my studies of Communication Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim / Germany. During my internship for an architectural photographer in Cologne, I decided to move on in this photographic direction.
The purpose of my work was to create a new way of experiencing remarkable architecture. Inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s 1886 short-film „Horse in Motion“, I developed the idea for my master thesis „Liège-Guillemins“. The train station in Liège / Belgium was designed by Santiago Calatrava and is the most important station of the region Wallonia. The principal components I tried to show with my project are the interaction between architecture and humans as well as time and light. Time lapse as a stylistic device offers new opportunities in acknowledging remarkable design. The appearance of time through motion gives the impression of vitality and emphasizes the buildings’ structure.
