The fearsome Konyak headhunter tribe live in the remote Nagaland hills of NE India. During the first week of April the Konyaks hold the Aoling Festival which celebrates the beginning of the spring season. These images depict the traditional headhunter culture and jovial spirit of both old and young Konyak men celebrated during this important festival which culminates in a haze of gunpowder from the mass firing of old hunting rifles. The tattoos on the face symbolise how many human heads the older man have taken during his life.
