I photograph car parks and dumpters. Algae colouring a basement rock wall inspired me to photograph Sydney’s underground sandstone walls and other naturally occurring patterns. We use enormous cutting discs to excavate underground car parks, leaving uneven textures. The stone’s porosity lets moisture seep through; without sunlight, layers of algae and other microbial elements can slowly build up exquisite patterns. With our hectic lives these natural murals can go unnoticed. My aim is to photograph what Nature does to transform our ‘Man Made Mark.’ Excavations and rubbish bins become beautiful, as oxidation and weathering turn them into Organic Landscapes.
