Story

I started shooting this project in 2013 in Utrish natural park, on the northern shores of the Black Sea, which has been a favorite spot for nudists since the 1960s. Nudism was frowned upon by Soviet society, but there was a resurgence in naturist clubs and beaches after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
People have a kind of ancient style of living in Utrish with no electricity, no water communications, they sleep in tents or under open skies, they cook on open fire, they don't need to work and feel themselves a part of nature. As everyone is very open and eager to share, it looks like a part of paradise, anisland of freedom from urbanisation and office work. I thought about iconographic scenes, which I could see a contemporary context. This place and people look universal. It could be any land, any nation and any time. I feel that humankind is a single organism with shared roots. Right now it is fragmented, but in the future will unite through culture. I am interested in something universal in the life of a person, like a holiday or leisure or 'timeless' images.
