This series came about as a reaction against the struggles faced by some minority groups against the government or other groups. The Singapore government had chosen to neglect the rights of its LGBT citizens due to the protests of religious groups, and also refused to provide financial aid to unwed mothers and their children, again due to moralistic judgement. In these images, there are elements of quiet strength and insistence, dignity, and subversiveness in each expression. After all, life finds a way and the spirit sings against established structures be they organizations or religious dogma.
