Celestial wonder is often part of our upbringing, forcing back horizons and influencing our sense of self. But it is a privilege: for the less fortunate, horizons may be decidedly earthbound and, in some cases, limited to the walls and ceilings just feet above their heads. Photographed in Afghanistan, inside the ruined Russian Cultural Centre, these photographs are an illustration of this Terrestrial Cosmos. For almost a decade, the Russian Cultural Centre was home to thousands of Afghanistan’s one million heroin addicts. It was demolished at the end of 2012, shortly after this project was completed.
