The only way I can survive in my ugly bureaucratic country Belgium is with my laugh. Almost every day I go out hunting for hilarious odd situations. And I never have to search too long. My country looks grey with almost no countryside so when you find an extremely colorful oasis it results almost automatically in a surrealistic situation. The people in my images are just supportive actors in the setting that I carefully choose. I’m able to do this because I’m an outsider and an insider at the same time. I want to show the true soul of Belgium as a paradox: boring, grey, sealed and rigid but also exciting and attractive because lots of people are living outside the box.
