This image was captured along a country road on the way to Jacmel, Haiti. Haitian children will typically rise before dawn to embark on the daily chores, which for the girls include trucking jugs of precious water from home to the neighboring fields by foot. The expressions of each girl in this image present a microcosm of the Haitian character, which can range from severe mistrust to natural wonder and delightful surprise.
