Schuyler Street in west Utica used to be part of the industrial zone with plenty of shops and little greasy spoon restaurants and a railroad track that served as a delivery system to the factories. Now that most of the factories are closed and there are more empty store fronts than shops, it's become one of the most depressed neighborhoods in the city, so not much for young fellows to do but run around the streets. These young fellows were playing war, pretend shooting at each other - but when I came along with a camera around my neck, their first impulse was to stop and smile as everyone is trained to do from day one when they see a camera. I reminded them that real soldiers don't stop a battle for a camera, and so they went back to their sterner faces of before and started shooting at me.
