This is one in a group of photographs focusing solely on mothers and their children, a bond that’s made increasingly clear with every subsequent image. This particular photograph taken in New York City during the winter of 2015 is both a reaction to Edward Steichen’s exhibition, “Family of Man,” as well as to a particularly moving photograph of a mother and daughter taken by Steichen in 1906. For me, these images represent one of the few expressions of unconditional love still common throughout the world.
