An elder couple lives in a rebuilt house after their original house has been destroyed by a flood in Romanian village of Rast, near the Danube river. Each day, 77 years old Marian fetches water from several blocks away, as the house has no water or sewage. His wife is chronically sick and could barely walk. They have a daughter who has not visited them for almost ten years. I am constantly searching for timeless images, the ones which can punch through the scenery of our epoch and let us see and feel the archetypal, the essential of humanity. I hope this photograph shows all the sadness that I felt when taking it and I wish it would make viewers reflect, no matter how briefly, upon old age and alienation.
