Active Sakurajima (“cherry island”) volcano is located in South of Japan and is erupting several times per day. Sakurajima is very special due to its volcanic lightning. Those so-called dirty thunder-storms are very rare and even could have played an important role for the origin of life. I’ve spent there five nights without sleep to capture this special picture. It is such unique because during that eruption one of the chimneys is erupting glowing cinder cones and the other one „just“ plumes.
