Religion today is misinterpreted, abused and used as an excuse to create havoc in cities with a political agenda. Religion should be a spiritual, personal and private journey. Today it showcases money, hooliganism, crime and devoid of original traditions. This photo series exposes the Ganesh Festival in Mumbai, India for the farce it has become today. The final day of the festival the idols are submerged into the ocean. Huge crowds are drawn to the beaches. Today, this festival leads to huge traffic jams, noise pollution, crimes, drunken behavior and robberies. The beaches are littered, idols are dumped and left that way and the ocean is massively polluted during the 10 days of the festival. Yet if concerned citizens criticize or raise a word against the mockery of the religion, these people use violence and threats to silence those who question them.
