Single moments stick out in my mind as visual snapshots void of any emotional attachment. I remember pouring coffee in my favorite mug, but I don’t remember making it. One moment I was appreciating the first sip and the next I was pouring the cold leftovers down the drain with no recollection of the time in between. I looked at the clock on the security system, which read, “SYSTEM IS NORMAL 3:17:13 am”. I looked at it and all the numbers were different. My environment, which is usually full of life and energy, becomes empty and uninhabited in the late hours of the night. Spaces shift to unrecognizable eeriness as the night shrouds my thoughts. This is the time when colors shift, lights change shape, and objects take on a new life. While I am physically awake, I am mentally exhausted.
