Long after I made this image, I realized how much the two boys reminded me of one of my favorite Hesse's books characters. Narcissus, the serious boy standing in the light with numbers written on the wall behind his head and Narcissus, the boy leaping into the darkness for the ball with abstract looking graphiti scrabbled on the same wall behind his head.
