Mourners gather and cry around the body of an elderly deceased woman from the White Yi tribe, in the remote mountaineous Xue Hua (Snowflake) village lying at the foot of the Yulong Snow Mountain in Yunnan, China. The married women of the white Yi tribe wear big black boxy headgear. The black headgear of the deceased was put over her face. The unmarried younger Yi lady at the bottom corner of the image does not wear the boxy headgear but has her hair tied in braids with colourful tassles. Here she is hitting a triangular plate as part of the death rites.
