I've long enjoyed photographing trees.....from a single stately oak standing proud atop a hillside, to dogwoods blooming in spring, and the unabashed color party many species can offer up in fall. Despite that enjoyment and the general appreciation I'd developed for them over time, I don't think it was until I visited Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee that I truly began to 'see' both the communal and/or familial qualities that came to light in the Cypress trees found in and surrounding Reelfoot Lake. From an amorous couple not averse to displaying their affection in front of the neighbors....to a family who enjoys their privacy and distance from the hubbub of the 'mainstream'.....to a single brave young member of a community stepping boldly out into the light and breaking away from the secrets of that community, it's all there for the viewing. I'm glad to have finally opened my eyes.
