This project follows the Rio Grande as it winds through a remote stretch of far west Texas, through deep canyons in Big Bend and small villages straddling both sides of the river, marking the southern border of the United States and the northern border of Mexico.   On either side of the border, the harsh desert conditions magnify the plight of our common humanity and mold a certain breed of character. The elements shape and bind us to one another and to the land. In these parts, the passage of time is etched on skin and earth in equal measure. The submitted image features Franker (left) weathered by elements and time and “King George” Goss (right) with his daughter Kaylee (center) of Terlingua Ranch taking respite from the unforgiving sun of the Chihuahuan Desert.
