Alongside my beautiful co-workers, Ajara and her mother Afsatou from Gambia, I work as caretaker for disabled adults. Over the years I’ve seen their family as humble, hard-working, and all around remarkable human beings. Never having seen them dress up for any occasion, it was special to see these wonderful women in their full regalia. Ajara had a tradtional muslim Gambian wedding. And it was absolutely incredible. Money rained down, as the guests bathed the newlyweds in cash. The dress code was bright and the most colorful array of fabrics, everyone absolutely dripping with gold and silver. As for the food, the whole community brought a dish, enough to feed a small army. The night only ended with everyone dancing until the stars came out....
