With more than one third of Kangaroo Island being declared a Conservation or National Park, there is abundant wildlife to be found across the island. Despite the well known fact that many kangaroos and other native species come out between dusk to dawn to feed and travel, sadly, there is still no dawn to dusk speed limit reduction as found in some other places in Australia. As a result, thousands of native wildlife are not only immediately killed, but maimed or fatally injured, often dying slow and traumatic deaths.
