Under the name Opas Books, ‘Iceland. An Uneasy Calm’, is my first self-published book. It is available in both a standard edition and a clamshell limited edition of 75 with choice of 3 limited edition toned silver prints. Shot on film over 8 years, the 98 plates are reproduced from the duo-toned silver gelatin exhibition prints. The work draws on the landscape of this volcanic country, man’s relationship with it and its powerful geothermal subterranean forces. It is a narrative of explosive beginnings, metaphorically referenced in the opening picture, of the land, sea and heavens, of man's struggle against the infinitely superior forces of nature to take food and energy from the earth, and finally of his inevitable destiny to return to it and recycle his atoms in the Universal pool. This series of 5 consists of four images from the book and one limited edition book shot.
