This project is part of an ongoing series on big cities' architecture which focuses on the visual interplay between public places and the people who live, work, and play there. My intent is to work with the geometry, scale, point of view and/or symmetry packed into each situation in ways that create visually compelling images which often incorporate reflection. My approach is related to the Photo Realism movement, particularly as practiced by Richard Estes who often seamlessly combined parts of urban photos he had taken to create arresting cityscape paintings which looked as real as if they had been documented in a photograph. My desired result, though, is just the opposite. The visual realities in my photos often interact in my camera's lens with their juxtaposed reflections and refractions to produce satisfying , if clearly illusory images.
