He buries the dead that no one claims, collects abandoned children, gives shelter to women victims of domestic violence, feeds the hungry. Philanthropist and humanitarian, Abdul Sattar Edhi has developed in Pakistan an incredible social and medical support network. It includes orphanages, psychiatric hospitals, women's homes, homeless shelters for addicts, clinics for the poor, and is at the head of the largest voluntary ambulance service in the world. "No religion is higher than humanity" is the key tenet of Abdul Sattar Edhi, and those working with him. He only ows two outfits, and never took a salary from his foundation. In a country that is defined by its religious identity, in which the fundamentalists are trying to impose their vision Mr Edhi never gave up. His dream: to make Pakistan a model of social revolution.
