Eid is a day of celebrating! Ramadan is a time of fasting. For a whole month each year, over two billion people on this Earth restrict themselves from water, food, smoking, sex, confrontation, swearing, or arguing from sunrise to sunset. The gates of hell are shut - according to the Noble Quran, and a time of reflection and self conquering begins as agitation, anger, fear, insecurities and desires bubble to the surface to be fought. After a month of prayer, healing, realisation, restriction and hunger, Muslims around the world gather with family and friends for the first meal in the sun. Eid is a celebration of one's true self. It is a celebration of reawakening and the momentous shift toward purity and clarity. Some children fast half days, but most do not fast until puberty/adulthood. In Islam, children are pure, and clear. As adults fast, Zia plays. As adults celebrate, Zia plays. An Ode to Purity.
