After the darkest winter's hiatus, the sun returns to the arctic in the month of January and barely stays above the horizon for an hour or 2 before dipping behind the horizon again. During this simultaneous sunrise/sunset, the sun casts a rosy light onto the higher tips of the mountains. This beautiful phenomenon is termed Alpenglow.
