With this work I examined the feelings of sadness. I photographed the walls in their original state in a huge, abandoned hospital complex, built in 1898, located near Berlin. In the corridors and halls, filled with daylight and faded colours I photographed a transience caused by a slow natural process. These walls witnessed all kinds of suffering, emotions and dramatic scenes and were then left alone. The elements took over where nobody cared anymore. I photographed this young woman in my studio against a plain backdrop and used Photoshop to let one of the walls become the environment for my model. Sorrow and the beauty of decay come together in this work.
