There are many of Leafcutter Ants in Costa Rica. These tireless little creatures are cutting pieces of leaves and transport them to their underground fortresses, where they grown mushrooms on them, to feed themselves. The species has no specific choice, they are collecting any type of leaf which is soft enough to cut. As they mostly collect leaves, but they find flowers and petals also to take from the lodge, I took the chance to work out this specific theme, through almost 200 hours of photographing. As these ants are active only by night, I was lightning them with flashes, which helped me showing their artistic character.
