During the summer months, there are a number of events held throughout the Lake District National Park, in the northwest of England, many of which are well over 100 years old, events which highlight and profile local customs and culture. This hilly area is understandably famous for its fell running, in effect cross country running up-and-down hillsides, there is also strong tradition of Westmorland and Cumberland wrestling, and mixed in with gymkhana, hound, beagle and terrier racing, dog shows, cattle, sheep and other animal showing, countryside sports and the more traditional children's running races. These shows are held every weekend and on some weekdays too at various events through the national park.
