The great Torri, at Itsukushima Shrine, is unique for being built over water, seemingly floating in the sea during high tide. It's Japan's most famous Torri and represents the boundary between the spirit and the human world. It was built in Hiroshima, Japan in 1875, and is made of naturally grown camphor tree. The high tide, along with early morning rain and mist, were perfect conditions to capture the essence and spirit of the sacred area.
