I journeyed to Teriberka in the Russian arctic, a former Soviet fishing port which has been in decilne for some time. Most of the residents have left. The place is mainly used by the military for training. I meet-up with Russian surfers Sergey, Kostya and Marat who are on a quest to find the best waves in their country. The idea of surfing here would for most people be to treacherous to contemplate; the water is freezing and the beaches are littered with boulders the size of basketballs. For a couple of hours we hike, we climb. It's a trek, but ultimatley we are rewarded. The waves are magnificent. The guys surf for hours. Every ride is talked about late into the night. We return the next day and it's even better. For me it was a once in a lifetime experience.
