Layers This work focuses on the qualities of glass that permit layering, fragmenting and distorting of images that appear in public spaces. From the street, the shop window mediates between the interior and the exterior space. While the interior space may have been deliberately constructed for advertising or sales, the surface of the glass is also reflecting the external world allowing completely new images to emerge, often with fleeting and unintended or possibly undesirable consequences. Often people passing by do not see this complex blending of images because their focus is on an object or objects of their immediate interest. Extraneous information gets filtered out. My work utilizes the camera’s ability to integrate several layers in the window into a new unique photographic image, thereby creating a photomontage that enhances a viewer’s capacity to appreciate the visual richness and complexity that the passerby may otherwise have missed.
