On Indian Independence Day, Ladakhi soldiers march in a parade. In this northernmost state of India, Jammu & Kashmir, tensions run high. Here there is a shared border between India and Pakistan, who have been at war since Partition in 1947, and are both nuclear-armed states. In stark contrast to the militarised display beneath, the Buddhist Leh Palace watches on from the mountain top.
