This is a picture of a breadfruit roasting on an open fire in someone’s yard in a downtown community in Kingston. The breadfruit is a fruit which grows in Jamaica and is a favourite source of carbohydrate for many. It is usually eaten roasted, boiled or fried. The fact that its being roasted outside is an indication of the socio-economic circumstances of the resident. However, roasting the fruit on natural fire is said to produce a better flavour than artificial flame.
