At Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan, an area of heavy snow in the winter, our plane awaited take-off clearance in a winter storm. They de-iced our plane, spraying it with solution. Beyond my window, lonely figures braved the cold to offer traditional farewell greetings as they do in Japan before we took off just a few minutes later into the storm.
