Dakota Crescent is one of the oldest public housing estates in Singapore but soon it has to make way for new developments. The low-rise, old-school architecture flats were built during the British colonial days in 1958 and have been preserved ever since, in spite of the surrounding, fast developing landscape. As a consequence of the ongoing land scarcity in Singapore, the Housing Development Board has recently announced redevelopment plans for this neighborhood. To the great dismay of the mostly elderly residents whom have lived here for decades. This generation in particular was raised to be supportive and understanding towards government plans and to be resilient. Yet, it is the other side of prosperity in the smallest nation in Southeast Asia. Some residents postponed the inevitable and waited until the very last moment, but by the end of December 2016 they too had to leave their beloved Dakota Crescent for good.
