Ricardas Jarmalavicius is an experienced strategic communication consultant, a former longtime journalist and editor-in-chief of several national newspapers with a great passion for photography. With a background in journalism and photojournalism, Ricardas views photography as not simply capturing moments as they happen, but as very vulnerable art, like a secret look through the stranger's diary. I am sure of one thing - to make pictures you need a special inner state, says Ricardas. You need to be open to the world and to yourself. Only then you can see, hear, smell, feel and be completely honest with your feelings, memories, fears and expectations. Completely vulnerable. Ricardas’ unique look at life is shaped by his childhood in care homes, prison guard experience in the army, in the Russian North, rich journalistic experience, books and complicated personal life - two marriages, the relationship with his two sons and their mothers. The further you live, the more questions than answers arise. I think it's reflected in my pictures, says Ricardas. He was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, but considers himself a citizen of the world. Ricardas named Photographer of the Year in 2016 Hotshoe Black White Photography Awards, has received several others international photography awards and has had photographs featured in press, photography websites and web-magazines. He has also had photos exhibited in the France, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania.
