In the Amazon region, it is common for children to have a pet in their houses. Once I found a girl with her best friend, a pale-throated sloth (Bradypus tridactylus), on a boat house on the Solimões River. From six known species of sloths, five of them are in Brazil and some are under serious risk of extinction. Despite being slow on the ground, sloths are extremely fast swimmers. There is a hamony among the riverside dwellers in the Amazon forest and the wild animals.
