This new body of work evolved from the observation and perception of light between 3 am and dawn, or sunrise. The early light at this time competes with artificial light to create abstract patterns and colour shifts. The images represented here are not an artificial constructs of my own making, but naturally occurring abstract patterns. Finding naturally occurring mixed early light patterns and formations requires intimate knowledge of the relationship between human habitation and the natural world. As an example, 'Two Shards after Dawn' was shot very early in the morning as light filtered through curtains into my studio.
