Rioting in Myanmar's most westerly state, Rakhine, has overturned cities with cycles of revenge attacks between its two inhabiting ethnic groups, the native Burmese Rakhine Buddhists and the immigrant Muslim Rohingya, complicating the idea of budding democracy amongst peaceful Buddhists. Disturbances have spread to other states around Myanmar, as Burmese react to the conflict in Rakhine state. More than 60 are left dead, 90,000 homeless, and as the military struggles to contain and downplay the violence, President U Thein Sein admits the country's push for democracy is jeopardised.
