FAMILY PORTRAIT India 2012 The jewellery business is part of the everyday life of SONI’s family. They are mostly all living together. The workshop is on the house's second floor. They use the kitchen and the temple on the main floor as living area. The bedrooms are sometimes used for tea ceremonies or for the men to eat together. The women eat in the kitchen most of the time. Men work (outside? in the workshop) every day and women take care of the house. The Father, Om Prakash SONI and his brother own a small jewellery store. The grandparents are retired. The two sons, Kamelesh and Dhiraj SONI, recently got married. Their two wives left their own family to come and live with their new parents-in-law. Before getting married Jyotsana and Bhavna had been studying at the university, but are now housewives. They do not have a lot of difficult work to do. The mother asked a poor Indian woman to help clean the dishes. The two young women stay with their husbands in the workshop most of the day to keep each other company and to watch Bollywood movies on TV. They are both about 25 years old and are expected to have babies soon (preferably boys), to transfer the family knowledge heritage. The family is very religious and conservative. A married women has to wear a sari every day, even at home. This is a traditional Indian family and they do not break the rules of their culture. They are from the same caste of course. www.guillandphotography.com
