Gang rapes have become common in India, a country with one of the highest rates of sexual violence in the world, and when a 23 years old girl was brutally gang-raped in Delhi, on a bus in December 2012, violence against women in India became international news. This terrible condition pushed the Delhi-based Azad Foundation to start training for young women to become taxi drivers, providing safe and alternative transportation for women traveling alone. The project is born to contribute to end the violence and rapes in the streets empowering women to support themselves and their families economically.
