Fishermen in Kerala carry on a job that has lasted for generations, just as generations are passed on their boats, often painted with symbols of Hindu culture. The days begin well before sunrise and continue for the entire duration of the day. For several years, however, with the increase of tourist in the state, the fishermen have decreased and often encouraged to leave their beaches and their homes, through money offers. In many cases, the fisherman takes the money and retired in the city, where, however, finds no work and remains trapped in the vice of drinking.
