A suicide bomber detonated an explosive at Al Midan quarter, in the heart of Damascus. Up to that moment, Syrians had never seen people burn to death like that. Cars in flames and the blood of victims flowing on the ground offered a horrible sight. There were body parts everywhere. Car bombs target civilian areas and neighborhoods in different parts of Syria. Thousands of civilians have lost their lives. Others have escaped death but the horror witnessed forever abides in their minds. Every day, Damascus residents wake up afraid that an explosion might occur near their home or on their way to work or school. On March 17th, 2012, a powerful explosion occurred close to my home. A suicide bomber had detonated yet another car bomb. On that day,I decided to start photographing and interviewing people who bomb survivors in targeted residential areas in Damascus. Each one of them has a different story but they all share the same fear even after they survive!
