I was working on this project for 178 days during a semester abroad in Lisbon, Portugal. Due to the fact that I was abruptly living in a completely unfamiliar surrounding, I started immediately collecting visual characters to get an idea of the face of this city. Inspired and driven by this extraordinary mixture of people I took more and more ”backdrop-related“ pictures of strangers, which means that I did not take the photo if the environment did not provide an appropriate backdrop at that instant. Like this I photographed about one hundred ”representatives“ of Lisbon for this city portrait.
