Lions mate all year round, but often after pride takeover. During mating, the couple engages in copulation several times a day, for several days. The frequency is often high in initial few days, such as every 15-20 mins, and gradually decreases over time. Often, the lions will road at each other, which I learnt is a sign of bonding. It is as if they are saying "I love you" to each other.
