I took these photos in Baku. These families live near railway. It’s dangerous and very bad place for living but they have not any way. People called this place Shankhai. These families are internally displaced persons. During the Nagorno-Karabakh War, territories constituting the former NKAO region of Azerbaijan and the seven adjacent regions (some of them partly) were occupied by the Armenian forces. As a result, about 600 000 people had to leave their homes. Azerbaijan now has one of the highest numbers of Internally displaced persons (IDPs) per capital in the world.
